MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631070829 A) filed by Mr. Kabya Saha; and Dr. Prativa Agarwalla on June 07, 2026, for A Portable System And Method For Real-Time Mental State Detection.
Inventors include Mr. Kabya Saha; and Dr. Prativa Agarwalla.
The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a portable embedded Human–Bio Interface (HBI) system and method for real-time detection and classification of human mental states using single-channel electroencephalography (EEG) signals. The system comprises an AF8-based EEG acquisition module, Ag/AgCl electrodes, a BioAmp EXG Pill biosignal conditioning circuit, and an ESP32 microcontroller configured for on-device signal processing and inference. The acquired EEG signals undergo preprocessing including noise suppression, filtering, artifact minimization, and temporal segmentation. Optimized multi-domain features comprising Root Mean Square (RMS), Signal Energy, Gamma Band Power, Peak-to-Peak Amplitude (PTP), Zero Crossing Rate (ZCR), and Beta-to-Alpha Ratio are extracted and normalized using subject-specific baseline calibration. A Logistic Regression classifier trained offline is embedded as a weighted mathematical equation within the firmware for real-time mental-state classification. The invention performs all processing locally without cloud dependency and achieves inference latency below 35 milliseconds, thereby providing a low-power, privacy-preserving, wearable platform for stress detection, cognitive monitoring, and brain-computer interface applications.
