Abstract: ABSTRACT A PORTABLE MULTISENSORY STIMULATION SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR COGNITIVE CARE IN THE ELDERLY A portable multisensory stimulation system (100) and method (200) for improving cognitive functioning and reducing depression among elderly individuals are disclosed. The system (100) comprises a portable housing (110) retaining, in discrete compartments, a tactile module (120), a visual module (130) having a guided cognitive-activity unit (134), an auditory module (140), an olfactory module (150) and a gustatory module (160). The auditory module (140) includes a wind chime (142) and a machine-readable optical code carrier (144) which, when read by a portable computing device (170), causes a corresponding audio recording (146) to be retrieved from a remote server (180) over a network (182) and reproduced. The invention integrates five sensory modalities and a cognitive task within a single low-cost unit through hardware- software cooperation, providing a non-pharmacological tool administrable with minimal supervision for simultaneous management of depression and cognitive decline.
