Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel polyherbal mucoadhesive intranasal pharmaceutical composition for direct nose-to-brain delivery of neuroprotective phytoconstituents. The composition comprises standardized extracts of Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri), Shankhpushpi (Convolvulus pluricaulis), and Cadamba (Neolamarckia cadamba), together with chitosan as a mucoadhesive polymer, sodium chloride as an isotonicity-adjusting agent, benzalkonium chloride as a preservative, acetic acid, purified water, and pharmaceutically acceptable pH-adjusting agents. The formulation is designed to bypass the blood-brain barrier through the olfactory and trigeminal pathways, thereby improving brain delivery of neuroprotective phytoconstituents. The composition exhibits acceptable physicochemical stability, physiological pH, suitable viscosity, homogeneity, and non-irritancy for intranasal administration. The synergistic combination of the selected herbal extracts provides antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective effects that may assist in the prevention, management, or adjunctive treatment of Parkinson's disease and related neurodegenerative disorders.
