Abstract: [34] The present invention discloses pH-responsive and enzyme-responsive nanoparticulate carriers designed for controlled delivery of antiretroviral therapeutic agents at sites associated with human immunodeficiency virus infection. The nanocarriers comprise biodegradable materials incorporating stimulus-sensitive components that regulate drug liberation in response to acidic pH and enzymatic conditions. These nanoparticles exhibit dimensions, drug-loading capacity, stability and controlled release kinetics, enabling prolonged therapeutic activity with reduced premature release. By supporting formulation composition and administration routes, the invention provides a biocompatible platform for responsive antiretroviral delivery that may improve spatial and temporal control of exposure.
