MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611065529 A) filed by Manipal University Jaipur on May 25, 2026, for A Permission-Based Deferred Settlement System For Upi Applications.

Inventors include Laraib Firoz; and Amit Kumar Sharma.

The application for the patent was published on July 17, 2026, under issue no. 29/2026.

Abstract: The present application relates to system and method for digital payments, and more importantly about a permission-based deferred settlement transaction execution system integrated with existing Unified Payments Interface (UPI) applications. The system comprises three operational phases: online issuance of authenticated execution permissions, offline transaction execution using stored permissions during connectivity loss, and deferred settlement by transmitting transaction records for backend verification, reconciliation, and secure account settlement. It provides an improvement to existing digital payment infrastructure, which allow us controlled transaction execution during temporary network unavailability without storing monetary value or performing any settlement in offline mode. This invention does not involve the creation of a stored-value wallet, prepaid balance, or independent payment instrument, and it acts strictly as an execution-control layer over existing UPI infrastructure.
