Abstract: The present invention relates to a passive heat-mapping floor tile for visual detection of subsurface thermal variations without the use of electrical power. The floor tile comprises a transparent protective top layer, a thermochromic pattern layer positioned beneath the top layer, and a heat transfer base layer configured to conduct thermal variations from an underlying floor surface. Localized heat or cold originating beneath the floor tile, such as from pipelines, leakage, dampness, or uneven heating, is passively transmitted to the thermochromic pattern layer, causing a reversible color or pattern change visible on the surface of the tile. The color or pattern returns to its original state upon normalization of the subsurface temperature. The invention enables continuous, non-electrical, and reversible visual indication of subsurface thermal conditions directly on the floor surface, without the use of sensors, wiring, or external diagnostic equipment.
