MUMBAI, India, Aug. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611063453 A) filed by Indraprastha Institute Of Information Technology Delhi on May 19, 2026, for A Passive Free-Space Optical Communication System With A Digital Micromirror Device And A Photovoltaic Device.
Inventors include Pal, Ankit Kumar; Rahul; and Bohara, Vivek Ashok.
The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.
Abstract: A passive free-space optical communication system and a method thereof are disclosed. The system includes a transmitter unit (104) and a receiver unit (110). The transmitter unit includes a collection lens (204) configured to collect and concentrate ambient solar radiation onto a DMD (206). The DMD is configured to generate a modulated optical beam (108). A collimating lens (208) transmits the modulated optical beam through a free-space optical channel (202). The receiver unit includes a photovoltaic device (210) that receives the modulated optical beam and ambient solar radiation to generate a composite photocurrent including a DC component and an AC component. An AC coupling circuit (212) separates the AC component from the DC component. A signal processing circuit (216) processes the AC component to recover the binary data bitstream. The DC component and AC component are processed simultaneously via parallel electrical paths.
