The application for the patent was published on October 02, 2026, under issue no. 40/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a nano-technology–based method for controlling the red mite Tetranychus urticae (Koch) (Acari: Tetranychidae), a major pest of lady’s finger (Abelmoschus esculentus L.). The invention discloses the use of a nano-sulphur formulation applied as a foliar spray at low concentrations for effective suppression of red mite populations under laboratory and field conditions. Bioassay studies demonstrated rapid and concentration-dependent mite mortality, with nano- sulphur achieving greater than 98% mortality within 24 hours and exhibiting the lowest median lethal concentration among tested agrochemicals. Field trials conducted over two consecutive cropping seasons confirmed sustained mite population reduction exceeding 90% at an application rate of 100 ml per hectare, with minimal impact on non-target beneficial organisms. The nano-sulphur formulation provides prolonged protection, reduces chemical input, and lowers the risk of resistance development. The invention offers an environmentally compatible, cost-effective, and sustainable solution for red mite management in lady’s finger cultivation and is suitable for integration into integrated pest management strategies.
