MUMBAI, India, June 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411089448 A) filed by Shoolini University Of Biotechnology And Management Sciences on November 19, 2024, for A Novel Method For The Bioprocessing Of Withaferin-A From Endophytes.
Inventors include Miss. Naimi Sirjohn; Dr. Pradeep Kumar; and Dr. Sourabh Kulshrestha.
The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.
Abstract: The present invention introduces a novel bioprocess for producing Withaferin-A, a potent chemotherapeutic agent, from endophytic microorganisms isolated from Withania somnifera. Furthermore, this method involves isolating and screening 17 distinct endophytic microbial strains, followed by fermentation in Potato Dextrose Broth (PDB) medium for 28 days at 37°C. The highest concentration of Withaferin-A, 1.9 mg/L, was obtained in PDB medium. In overall, this bioprocess marks the first instance of Withaferin-A production from endophytic bacteria, offering a sustainable, eco-friendly, and cost-effective alternative to traditional plant extraction methods.
