MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541025181 A) filed by Sri Ramachandra Institute Of Higher Education And on March 20, 2025, for A Novel Media For Malassezia.

Inventors include Prof. Dr. Anupma Jyoti Kindo; Dr. Ambujavalli Balakrishnan Thayikkannu; and Prof. Dr. Suresh Panchanathan.

The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.

Abstract: TITLE: A NOVEL MEDIA FOR MALASSEZIA APPLICANT: SRI RAMACHANDRA INSTITUTE OF HIGHER EDUCATION AND RESEARCH ABSTRACT The present invention discloses a process of preparation of novel solid medium configured for rapid growth, demonstration of phenotypic character and primary isolation of Malassezia thereby making speciation of Malassezia simpler both for diagnosis and research. The process of the present invention comprises of a. mixing Peptone, Glucose, Yeast extract, Ox bile desiccated, NaCl, Glycerol, Tween 40, Esculin, and Agar to form a mixture; b. adjusting the pH of the mixture to mildly acidic and autoclaving to form novel solid medium. The present invention also disclose a novel solid medium configured for rapid growth, demonstration of phenotypic character and primary isolation of Malassezia thereby making speciation of Malassezia simpler both for diagnosis and research, prepared by the process described above.
