Inventors include Dr. D. Saravanan; Dr. R. Seetharaman; Dr. N. Vanitha Rani; Dr. E. Shanmugapriya; Dr. J. Padmavathy; and Dr. S. Mohideen.
The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for preparing an antioxidant extract from leaves of Thunbergia erecta and isolating an antioxidant ester compound therefrom. The process comprises subjecting dried and powdered leaves to Soxhlet extraction using a hydroalcoholic solvent comprising ethanol and water, followed by concentration to obtain an extract having an extractive value of 27- 28% w/w, a total phenolic content of 84 mg TAE/g, and a DPPH IC50 value of 156.8 µg/mL. The extract is chromatographically fractionated using a solvent system comprising toluene, ethyl acetate, and formic acid in a ratio of 5:4:1 to isolate an ester compound having an retention factor value of 0.89. The compound is identified as hexadecyl (2E,4E)-5-phenylpenta-2,4-dienoate by spectroscopic and analytical techniques. The invention further relates to antioxidant compositions comprising the extract and/or the isolated compound.
