Abstract: A non-invasive neonatal urine collection device includes a hydrophobic outer layer surrounding an integrated hydrophilic urine-guiding channel that directs urine by capillary action into a sterile collection reservoir. The hydrophobic layer minimizes lateral spreading and leakage, while the hydrophilic channel preferentially transports urine toward the reservoir. The multilayer construction may further include an absorbent transfer layer, leak- proof backing layer, anti-reflux valve, stool barrier and sterile sampling port. The device improves sample recovery, reduces contamination and facilitates urine collection for newborn screening, biochemical investigations and metabolic disorder diagnosis without adhesive attachment to the infant.
