MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511014732 A) filed by Shriram Pistons & Rings Limited on February 20, 2025, for A Nodular Cast Iron (nci) Piston For Internal Combustion Engine Of A Vehicle.

Inventors include Vineet Ahluwalia; Vijay Pamnani; Rakesh Jha; Sunil Dhingra; and Tarun Lodhi.

The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a nodular cast iron (NCI) piston (100) designed for an internal combustion engine of a vehicle. The piston (100) mainly includes a piston ring portion (102), a piston skirt (114), and a pin bore (116). A cooling gallery (112) is defined within the piston below a piston crown (104), with its top end (112A) near the piston crown (104) and its bottom end (112B) near an upper section (114A) of the piston skirt (114). The piston (100) provides enhanced strength, durability, and thermal stress tolerance while facilitating longer compression strokes by enabling use of longer connecting rods due to reduced compression height, and optimized cooling gallery improves heat dissipation across ring grooves, enhances engine performance, eliminates need for a radial compression profile (RCP) ring, reduces failure risks, and ensures cost efficiency, making it suitable for vehicle applications.
