The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.
Abstract: ABSTRACT A nitric oxide targeted anammox (NOTA) process for treating nitrogen-rich wastewater The present invention provides a nitric oxide targeted anammox process for treating nitrogen-rich wastewater, including closed landfill leachate (CLL). This process comprises mixing said wastewater with an inoculum of waste activated sludge (WAS) while maintaining dissolved oxygen (DO) of the wastewater at 0.8 to 1.5 mg/L to suppress the activity of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria and nitrite oxidizing bacteria in the WAS and to facilitate conversion of ammonium to nitrogen using nitric oxide as an electron acceptor by anammox bacteria in the WAS obviating formation of hydrazine by-product.
