Abstract: The present invention relates to a nanocomposite hydrogel wound dressing comprising a standardized Limonia acidissima leaf extract incorporated within a biodegradable chitosan-sodium alginate hydrogel matrix reinforced with antimicrobial nanoparticles. The hydrogel provides sustained release of bioactive phytochemicals while maintaining a moist wound environment and exhibiting enhanced antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. The invention further provides a process comprising extraction and standardization of Limonia acidissima leaves, preparation of the biodegradable hydrogel matrix, incorporation of nanoparticles and herbal extract, cross-linking, and formation of the hydrogel into wound dressings. The formulation obtained has an ability to promote fibroblast growth, collagen formation, angiogenesis, wound contraction, and rapid tissue regeneration while reducing the risk of microbial infection.
