Abstract: The invention relates to biomedical nanomaterials, and more particularly to a nanocomposite composition and process for preparing carboxymethyl agarose/chitosan- supported silver nanoparticles encapsulating 5-fluorouracil. The composition comprises a polymeric matrix formed by carboxymethyl agarose and chitosan through hydrogen bonding and electrostatic association, green-synthesized silver nanoparticles produced using ethanolic extract of Alstonia scholaris as reducing and stabilizing medium, and 5-fluorouracil retained within the matrix by physical entrapment and non-covalent association. The process includes preparing carboxymethyl agarose, synthesizing silver nanoparticles by addition of the plant extract to AgNO3 solution, mixing chitosan with carboxymethyl agarose to form a homogeneous matrix, incorporating the silver nanoparticles and 5-fluorouracil, and recovering a dry porous nanocomposite powder by centrifugation, freezing, and lyophilization. The resulting semi-crystalline nanocomposite is useful for anticancer, antioxidant, antidiabetic, and antimicrobial biomedical applications.
