MUMBAI, India, Oct. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611002906 A) filed by Panjab University on January 10, 2026, for A Multifunctional Metallosurfactant Based Catalyst For Integrated Bio Electrochemical And Water Splitting System.
Inventors include Dr. Gurpreet Kaur; and Pooja Devi.
The application for the patent was published on October 09, 2026, under issue no. 41/2026.
Abstract: A multifunctional metallosurfactant based catalyst for integrated bioelectrochemical and water splitting system comprising MOC@CC (104, 105 and 106), is used for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in an integrated system having a combination of a microbial fuel cell 101 and a water splitting electrochemical cell 102. The microbial fuel cell 101 will generate electricity using waste water which will be utilized to split water into H2 and O2 using the same catalyst. The integrated set-up can work in reverse direction; wherein solar hydrogen will be produced by splitting water and oxygen can be utilized in microbial fuel cell 101 for wastewater treatment and electricity generation.
