MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621062421 A) filed by Dr. Alka Tyagi on May 17, 2026, for A Multi-Target Coumarin-Derived Acetohydrazide Schiff Base Compound Exhibiting Acetylcholinesterase Inhibitory, Antibacterial And Antioxidant Activities.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a coumarin-based hydrazide Schiff base compound, namely (E)-2-((2,5-dichlorophenyl)(2-oxo-2H- chromen-4-yl)amino)-N'-(pyridin-2-ylmethylene)acetohydrazide, exhibiting significant acetylcholinesterase inhibitory, antibacterial and antioxidant activities. The invention further relates to a process for synthesis of the said compound through sequential preparation of 4-anilino coumarin derivatives, N-substituted coumarin derivatives, coumarin hydrazide intermediates and final Schiff base condensation using substituted aromatic aldehydes. The synthesized compound possesses molecular formula C23H16Cl2N4O3 and molecular weight 467.30. Biological evaluation of the compound demonstrated potent acetylcholinesterase inhibitory activity with IC50 value of 0.858±0.12 µM indicating potential utility in management of Alzheimer’s disease and related neurodegenerative disorders. The compound further exhibited antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli ATCC56521 with zone of inhibition of 21.0±0.42 mm and antioxidant activity with IC50 value of 6.875±0.76 µM. The invention additionally relates to pharmaceutical compositions comprising the said compound along with pharmaceutically acceptable excipients for therapeutic and biomedical applications associated with neurodegeneration, oxidative stress and microbial infections.
