MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611089927 A) filed by Chitkara University on July 23, 2026, for A Mucoadhesive Buccal Film With Nanoparticle Drug Dispersion For Transmucosal Migraine Delivery.

Inventors include Dr. Sonia Dhiman; Dr. Shareen Singh; and Dr. Thakur Gurjeet Singh.

The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: The present invention provides a mucoadhesive buccal film (100) for transmucosal delivery of a migraine rescue agent. The film (100) comprises a fast-wetting API nanoparticle layer (200) containing a zolmitriptan active pharmaceutical agent (205) in a nano-solid dispersion (400), and a mucoadhesive backing layer (300) containing pH-buffered permeation microdomains (310). An interfacial anchoring zone (1000) couples the layers and retains a reservoir nanoparticle fraction (220), while a rapid-release nanoparticle fraction (210) hydrates for immediate availability. Hydrated directional microchannels (320) conduct dissolved drug toward buccal mucosa, and a saliva-resistant peripheral edge seal (1200) limits lateral washout. The dispersion is stabilized by polymer-surfactant stabilizers (600) and provides particle-size control, dissolution, dose uniformity, and storage stability. The film (100) releases a fraction within five minutes and a secondary fraction over thirty to sixty minutes, thereby reducing swallowing loss. A moisture-barrier peel pack (700) protects the unit dose from moisture-induced aggregation and phase separation. (Accompanied Figure No. 1 to 4)
