MUMBAI, India, Oct. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621089991 A) filed by Quadros, Stelson on July 24, 2026, for A Mosquito Repellent Formulation And Method For Preparation Thereof.
Inventors include Quadros, Stelson; and Ghosh, Subarna.
The application for the patent was published on October 09, 2026, under issue no. 41/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a microemulsion mosquito repellent formulation using essential oils extracted from leaves of Cinnamomum tamala and Lantana camara. The essential oils are obtained using hydro-distillation with a Clevenger apparatus and formulated into a microemulsion system using a surfactant and distilled water. The formulation is prepared by mixing 0.5 mL of essential oil with 1 mL surfactant and adjusting the total volume to 10 mL using distilled water followed by high- speed magnetic stirring for 45 minutes to obtain a thermodynamically stable isotropic microemulsion. The resulting formulation exhibits nanometric droplet size of approximately 63 nm and pH in the range of 3.9–4.1. The microemulsion demonstrates mosquito repellency of up to 66.66% and mortality of 53.33% against Aedes and Culex mosquito species. The formulation further exhibits antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria and negligible toxicity to non-target organisms including laboratory mice, providing an eco-friendly mosquito repellent formulation.
