Abstract: The present invention provides a mode determining system (10) for a vehicle and a method of operation thereof. The mode determining system (10) receives a plurality of instantaneous dynamic positions (P) on a ground (G) and sensed signal (S) of vehicle as time stamped events. A learning processor (24), of the present invention, determines a predefined point density (D) of the instantaneous dynamic positions (P) and builds correlation with the sensed signal (S) to ascertain modes of operation of the vehicle on the ground. The modes of operation as determined by the mode determining system (10) includes the idle mode (Mi), the working mode (Mw) and the transport mode (Mt) of the vehicle. The present invention facilitates in determining the effective utilization of the vehicle without human assistance.
