The application for the patent was published on August 07, 2026, under issue no. 32/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a microfluidic device (100) for modelling grey matter and white matter organization, and method and system thereof. The device has plurality of inlet (101) configured to introduce the neural cell bodies (1011) and fluids (1012) to the device; at least one outer chamber (1021) configured to contain neuronal cell bodies; at least one central chamber (1022) configured to receive axonal projections extending from the neuronal cell bodies; a barrier structure (104) positioned between the outer chamber (1021) and the central chamber (1022), wherein the barrier structure is configured to restrict migration of neuronal cell bodies while permitting passage of axons; a plurality of micropillars (103) disposed within one or more chambers of the device; and a plurality of outlet (105) configured to remove spent culture medium and waste products from the device. The micropillars (103) of the device (100) enable neuronal growth in a vertical (Z-axis) direction to create a three-dimensional neuronal microenvironment; creating a spatially separation of neuronal soma and axons to mimic grey matter and white matter organization of brain tissue.
