Abstract: ABSTRACT TITLE: A METHOD TO IMPROVE SOFTENING-MELTING ZONE OF IRON-BEARING MATERIALS IN BLAST FURNACE. The present invention relates to a method for improving the softening-melting zone of high-alumina iron-bearing materials in the blast furnace. In blast furnace(BF) operations, sinter, pellets, and lump ore are used as iron-bearing materials, which are mixed with bonded hematite quartzite (BHQ) as a flux to delay the formation of the first slag (fayalite: 2FeO•SiO2). In the BHQ, SiO2 and Fe2O3 are bonded together, and SiO2 is not available for the initial slag formation with other iron-bearing materials. As a result, the formation of the first slag is delayed, and the softening temperature is delayed. The meltdown temperature of the iron-bearing materials depends on the quaternary slag composition of CaO, SiO2, Al2O3, and MgO. The final slag meltdown temperature is determined by the amount of BHQ added, which in turn affects the meltdown temperature of the iron-bearing materials. The invention replaces other silica-rich materials with BHQ as a flux in the blast furnace process. This improves the softening temperature, improve the meltdown temperature, and narrows the softening-melting range, reduce the Maximum differential pressure and gas flow resistance.
