MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611087748 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi on July 17, 2026, for A Method Of Synthesis Of A Nanocomposite For Dark Fermentative Biohydrogen Production.

Inventors include Abha Mishra; Shruti S. Raut; and Arpit Sharma.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of synthesis of a nanocomposite for dark fermentative biohydrogen production. The present invention provides a green- synthesized iron oxide-doped biochar nanocomposite for enhancing biohydrogen production through dark fermentation. The iron oxide nanoparticles are synthesized from plant-derived phytochemicals and subsequently immobilized onto biochar to form a stable and functional nanocomposite that served as an efficient additive in anaerobic fermentation systems, improving microbial activity and facilitating enhanced electron transfer during the hydrogen production process. The invention provides an eco-friendly, cost-effective and scalable solution for renewable hydrogen production from biomass and organic wastes.
