MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641108158 A) filed by Pragati Engineering College on September 09, 2026, for A Method Of Rapid Detection Of Antimicrobial Resistance.
Inventors include Mr. G Satya Mohan Chowdary; Mrs. G. Viranya; Mr. Kotikalapudi Siva Sankar; and Mr. Marukurthi Manishankar.
The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for rapid detection of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) using nucleic acid amplification, CRISPR-based detection, and artificial intelligence-assisted data analysis. The method comprises collecting a biological sample, extracting nucleic acids, amplifying one or more antimicrobial resistance gene targets using an isothermal amplification technique, and detecting the amplified products through a CRISPR-Cas detection system with fluorescent or lateral flow readout. The generated signals are analyzed by an artificial intelligence algorithm to identify resistance genes, classify antimicrobial resistance patterns, and generate an automated diagnostic report. The method enables simultaneous detection of multiple AMR determinants with high sensitivity and specificity within a significantly reduced turnaround time compared to conventional culture-based antimicrobial susceptibility testing. The invention provides a rapid, portable, and user-friendly diagnostic platform suitable for point-of-care applications in clinical, veterinary, food safety, and environmental surveillance. The proposed method facilitates timely antimicrobial selection, improves diagnostic accuracy, and supports antimicrobial stewardship by enabling early detection and effective management of antimicrobial- resistant pathogens.
