Abstract: The present invention provides an economical and environment-friendly method of metal-free sulfonation of an imidazopyridine. The method involves reacting an imidazopyridine with potassium persulfate in a reaction solvent to yield a plurality of imidazo[1,2- a]pyridine-3-sulfonic acid derivatives. Moreover, the present invention provides a method that yields a plurality of imidazo[1,2- a]pyridine-3-sulfonic acid derivatives with high purity and high yield. Therefore, the present invention provides a greener and sustainable alternative to the hazardous method of sulfonation reactions that is also free of by-product load.
