MUMBAI, India, July 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541004323 A) filed by Olive Lifesciences Private Limited on January 19, 2025, for A Method Of Extraction Of Trans-Zeaxanthin.
Inventors include Cheppattu Mohammed Abdullah Anzar; Molath Varkey Joseph; Padmanabhan Chettayil Prasad; Bharadwaj Gururaj Vadiraj; Earanimose Bineesh; and Ramachandran Sundaram.
The application for the patent was published on July 24, 2026, under issue no. 30/2026.
Abstract: The present invention disclose a method of extraction of transzeaxanthin from Lycium Barbarium involving a combination of supercritical fluid extraction and saponification technologies, as a result of which transzeaxanthin with a purity of at least 90% in a high performance liquid chromatography assay has been made possible. The methods disclosed in this invention includes incorporation of suitable and specific cosolvents along with supercritical carbondioxide, and thereafter followed by further saponification reaction, thereby enabling removal of lipid and other undesirable compounds such as chlorophyll in the finally obtained transzeaxanthin. Furhter, the said transzeaxanthin also undergoes series of water washes to remove maximum quantities of dissolved co-solvent, and accordingly transzeaxanthin with a purity of at least 90% is achieved.
