Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for utilizing expired methadone as a corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in acidic environments, specifically focusing on its application in 1M hydrochloric acid (HCl). The method involves introducing expired methadone, which contains nitrogen and oxygen atoms with lone pair electrons, into an acidic medium containing mild steel. The expired methadone adsorbs onto the mild steel surface through physisorption and chemisorption, forming a protective layer that prevents corrosive ions from penetrating the steel surface. The invention further includes analyzing the surface morphology of the mild steel using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) to confirm the presence of carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen from the methadone. The invention is applicable to various acidic environments and can be used in combination with other eco-friendly corrosion inhibitors to enhance the protective layer's effectiveness
