Abstract: ABSTRACT Disclosed herein is a method for targeted intralesional drug delivery for controlled treatment of oral submucous fibrosis (100) comprises formulating at least one therapeutic agent (102). The method also includes incorporating the therapeutic agent into one or more biodegradable polymer matrices (104) or into nanocarriers. The method also includes embedding the formulated carrier within a thermo-responsive or pH-responsive gel system (106) that remains in a liquid state during administration and undergoes in situ gelation upon exposure to physiological conditions to enhance retention at the injection site. The method also includes administering the formulated delivery system intralesionally into fibrotic oral mucosal tissue (108). The method also includes enabling controlled, localized, and prolonged release of the therapeutic agent at the lesion site (110) to improve tissue permeability, enhance microcirculation, inhibit collagen synthesis, and reduce oxidative stress.
