MUMBAI, India, Aug. 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511006408 A) filed by Lovely Professional University on January 27, 2025, for A Method For Synthesis Of Bio-Nanocomposite Films For Bone Regeneration.
Inventors include Sushmita Saurav; Dr. Madhuri Girdhar; and Dr. Anand Mohan.
The application for the patent was published on August 14, 2026, under issue no. 33/2026.
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for synthesis of bio-nanocomposite films for bone regeneration. The said method includes various steps such as preparation of silk fibroin (SF) from cocoons (110), preparation of tetra octadecyl ammonium bromide montmorillonite (MMT) clay (120), preparation of bio nanocomposite films by using solution casting method (130), characterization of SF/LAP/modified MMT (140), porosity analysis (150), biomineralization of SF/LAP/modified MMT by using SBF (160), biodegradation by monitoring weight change in PBS (170), cell viability and cell cytotoxicity analysis in Saos-2 cell lines by using MTT assay (180), and antimicrobial assay by disc diffusion method (190). The Silk fibroin protein, extracted from cocoons of Bombyx mori, exhibits considerable promise for application in the repair of bone defects. The innovatively synthesized bio-nanocomposite films not only foster bone regeneration but also holds promise in mitigating the need for secondary surgeries in bone replacement protocols.
