Abstract: A METHOD FOR PRODUCING NATURAL PIGMENTS FROM FOOD WASTE-DERIVED BACTERIAL STRAINS Disclosed method (100) to produce natural pigments from food waste-derived bacterial strains, comprising incubating, upon inoculating raw unprocessed food waste into a nutrient medium, to obtain a primary bacterial culture. The method (100) further comprising incubating, upon plating diluted primary bacterial culture on a solid nutrient medium, to obtain a plurality of bacterial colonies. Furthermore, the method (100) comprising streaking a sample from a blue-black pigmented colony from the plurality of colonies into a second pure culture. Furthermore, the method (100) comprising incubating, upon inoculating the second pure culture into a nutrient medium to obtain a pigment-containing culture broth. Furthermore, the method (100) comprising re-incubating the broth, seeing a colour change, upon re-inoculating into the nutrient medium. Furthermore, the method (100) comprising obtaining the blue pigment by separating it from a biphasic system, prepared upon mixing a pigment-containing supernatant, harvested by centrifugation of the broth, with an organic solvent.
