Abstract: ABSTRACT A METHOD FOR PREPARATION OF Ni COATED ZTA GRANULES USED IN METAL MATRIX COMPOSITE The present invention proposes a method for the preparation of Zirconia toughened Alumina (ZTA) granules which is coated with Nickel (Ni) and used in metal matrix composite. The objective of this invention is to effectively improve the bonding between ZTA particles and metal matrix, and for this nickel was plated on the surface of ZTA particles by electroless deposition method. The formation mechanism of nickel coating and effects of the pH solution, temperature of solution, time required in each step & baking cycle to achieve the optimum hardness on Ni coated grains have been discussed in the invention. Thickness of the coating with respect to time are analysed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The results achieved shows that the nickel was successfully plated on the surface of ZTA particles by electroless plating without any noticeable defects.
