The spoilage state is determined not merely by absolute concentrations but by evaluating both the current value and the rate of change over time of these ratio metrics. This dynamic analysis captures the evolving metabolic pathways of spoilage microorganisms, providing early warnings well before visible or olfactory signs of spoilage appear. By focusing on relational ratios rather than individual compound levels, the approach minimizes interference from inherent food ingredients like spices or seasonings, making it particularly effective for ready-to-eat meals and mixed dishes. The invention enables implementation on diverse hardware platforms, from portable electronic noses to laboratory-grade equipment, and supports proactive food safety management in supply chains, households, and industrial settings.
