MUMBAI, India, Sept. 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611084379 A) filed by Manipal University Jaipur on July 09, 2026, for A Method For Optimal Control, Cost-Effectiveness Analysis By Using A Fractional-Order Compartmental Model For Infectious Disease Prediction.
Inventors include Pooja Jangir; and Dr. Garima Agarwal.
The application for the patent was published on September 04, 2026, under issue no. 36/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a computational method based on fractional-order differential equations for investigating infectious disease transmission with memory- dependent characteristics. The proposed fractional-order SVEIR model divides the population into susceptible, vaccinated, exposed, infected and recovered compartments. The transmission process employs a nonlinear saturated incidence rate to capture behavioural inhibition and limited contact rates among individuals during epidemics. Positivity, bondedness, equilibrium states, reproduction number estimation, stability analysis and sensitivity analysis are analytically established. The invention further investigates a dual-control strategy involving vaccination and treatment interventions for controlling disease spread while optimizing healthcare resources. Numerical implementation is performed through the fractional Euler scheme to study disease progression at different fractional orders. Cost-effectiveness of the control strategies is assessed using ACER and ICER metrics. The invention serves as a decision-support framework for disease prediction, healthcare strategy optimization and epidemic management.
