MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611089253 A) filed by Graphic Era Deemed To Be University on July 22, 2026, for A Method For Microwave-Assisted Synthesis Of Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles Using Cucumis Melo Peel Extract.
Inventors include Mahvish Shameem; and Dr. Waseem Ahmad.
The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.
Abstract: The invention relates to green nanomaterial synthesis, particularly a microwave-assisted method for preparing zinc oxide nanoparticles from zinc chloride using ethanolic Cucumis melo peel extract as a phytochemical reducing and stabilizing medium. Cucumis melo peel powder is subjected to Soxhlet extraction with ethanol, and the resulting extract is mixed with 0.1 M zinc chloride solution, stirred at room temperature for 4 hours, microwave irradiated for 3 minutes at 750 W, centrifuged, washed, oven-dried, and calcined at 500°C to yield zinc oxide nanoparticles. Compared with conventional nanoparticle synthesis, the method uses an agro-waste- derived bioresource, reduces reliance on harsh synthetic reagents, and enables rapid formation of ZnO having hexagonal wurtzite structure. The nanoparticles are useful for non-therapeutic applications including photocatalytic degradation of organic dyes, degradation of pharmaceutical contaminants, wastewater treatment, antimicrobial coatings, and environmental remediation technologies.
