MUMBAI, India, June 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202431024572 A) filed by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited on March 27, 2024, for A Method For Manufacturing High-Density Ceramic Alumina Tubes.

Inventors include Govindaswamy Thirupathi; Dineshkumar Thiruselvam; and Madhusoodana Chengala Damodara.

The application for the patent was published on June 19, 2026, under issue no. 25/2026.

Abstract: The invention relates to manufacturing process for ceramic alumna tubes that has 98% Al2O3 content, higher density and higher Length (L) to wall thickness (t) ratio (L/t) of at least 150. The manufacturing method comprises of process for blending of raw materials, binders and its mixing with raw materials in special type mixers to achieve high shear and extrusion through hydraulic or screw type extruders. Invention also includes design of mandrel and outer tubes for the varying thickness of alumina tubes and its post-production process to remove the extruded tube from the mandrel supports. This invention further describes that the support structure design, drying time required before removal of the tubes from the mandrel support, stage-wise drying after removal of the tubes from the support and sintering procedure for the tube at 1600 oC.
