MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641113367 A) filed by Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College Of Engineering on September 22, 2026, for A Method For Making High-Performance Composite Material Using Sisal Fiber And Coconut Biochar Reinforcement.
Inventors include Mr Arul R; Mr Munawir Fairoose; Mr Anfan Hussain S N; Mr Sreeraj J; and Mr Hari Govind.
The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.
Abstract: The present invention discloses a sustainable hybrid composite material comprising sisal fibers, coconut shell-derived biochar, and an epoxy resin matrix configured to improve structural and environmental performance characteristics. The sisal fibers function as primary reinforcement elements providing tensile strength and structural integrity, while coconut shell-derived biochar acts as a functional filler configured to enhance stiffness, hardness, interfacial bonding, and moisture resistance. The biochar is produced through controlled pyrolysis processing and converted into fine particles for uniform dispersion within the epoxy matrix. The composite is fabricated using molding techniques with controlled reinforcement and filler concentrations to optimize mechanical properties. The resulting hybrid composite exhibits improved tensile strength, flexural strength, impact resistance, and reduced moisture absorption compared with conventional polymer composites. The invention provides a lightweight, environmentally sustainable, and cost-effective alternative to synthetic composites suitable for automotive, construction, lightweight paneling, and semi-structural engineering applications.
