MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611088416 A) filed by Dr. Shruti Rialach; and Prof. Surinder Paul on July 20, 2026, for A Method For Ligand-Directed Synthesis Of Mof-Derived Cerium Oxide/Amorphous Reduced Graphene Oxide Nanocomposites.

Inventors include Dr. Shruti Rialach; and Prof. Surinder Paul.

The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.

Abstract: The invention relates to nanocomposite synthesis for electrochemical energy storage, and discloses a ligand-directed method for preparing a CeO2/a-rGO nanocomposite by combining at least one organic ligand with a cerium-containing precursor to form a cerium-based MOF precursor, associating the precursor with a graphene-derived carbon phase, and thermally converting the scaffold into cerium oxide nanoparticles anchored on an amorphous reduced graphene oxide matrix. The organic ligand directs cerium coordination, regulates nucleation and growth, and preserves morphology and spatial distribution after conversion, yielding uniformly distributed dendritic cerium oxide nanoparticles and a hierarchical porous oxide-carbon assembly. The nanocomposite provides technical advancement through controlled nanoscale cerium dispersion, retained porous architecture, and formation of fluorite CeO2 with graphitic and oxygenated carbon species, making it particularly useful as an electrochemically active material in electrodes for supercapacitors or hybrid supercapacitors.
