MUMBAI, India, Aug. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641092735 A) filed by National Institute Of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship And Management Thanjavur Niftem-T on July 30, 2026, for A Method For Improving Aqueous Extraction Of Oleosomes Using Ultrasound And Microwave Pre-Treatment.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a controlled energy-assisted aqueous extraction method for preparing an isolated oleosome composition from an oleosome source. The method comprises hydrating the oleosome source, dehulling and rinsing the hydrated oleosome source, homogenizing the cleaned oleosome source with an aqueous medium to obtain an oleosome-containing slurry, subjecting the slurry to controlled ultrasound pre-treatment or microwave pre-treatment, filtering the pre-treated slurry, and centrifuging the filtered slurry to recover an oleosome-enriched cream fraction. The ultrasound pre-treatment is performed at about 20 kHz to 25 kHz and 195 W to 455 W, while the microwave pre-treatment is performed at about 2450 MHz and 180 W to 900 W. The method disrupts the plant cellular matrix while maintaining oleosome-associated phospholipid-protein interfacial structure, thereby improving oleosome recovery, fat recovery, droplet-size uniformity, reduced creaming, and colloidal stability without organic solvents or synthetic stabilizers.
