MUMBAI, India, Sept. 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621086776 A) filed by Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute Of Technology, Surat on July 15, 2026, for A Method For Green Solvent Extraction Of Bioactive Compounds And Protein From Pineapple Peel Waste.

Inventors include Parikh, Jigisha K.; and Bansod, Shama P..

The application for the patent was published on September 04, 2026, under issue no. 36/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for extracting bioactive compounds and protein from pineapple peel waste using deep eutectic solvents as green extraction media. The method comprises preparing a choline chloride-zinc chloride deep eutectic solvent at a 1:1 molar ratio, adding pineapple peel waste powder at a solvent-to- solid ratio of 40:1 to 60:1 mL/g, and subjecting the mixture to extraction under controlled conditions comprising thermally assisted extraction or microwave-assisted extraction. The method enables simultaneous extraction of total phenolic content, total flavonoid content, total tannin content, and bromelain protein from pineapple peel waste using a single green solvent system. The extract exhibited 74% DPPH radical scavenging activity and achieved approximately 26 times higher phenolic yield compared to ethanol-based extraction. The invention provides an eco-friendly extraction process that eliminates toxic organic solvents, reduces extraction time through microwave-assisted extraction, and offers potential applications in food, pharmaceutical, and nutraceutical industries.
