MUMBAI, India, July 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611055751 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Jodhpur on May 01, 2026, for A Method For Fabricating A Solid Electrolyte Side-Gated Biocompatible Electrochemical Transistor Device.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a solid electrolyte gated planar side gated biocompatible electrochemical transistor device and a method for fabricating the same. The device comprises source and drain electrodes formed on a substrate, a semiconducting channel deposited therebetween, laterally positioned side gate electrodes, a dielectric layer defining an active channel region, and a solid or quasi solid electrolyte providing ionic coupling between the gate electrode and the channel. The channel comprises poly(3,4 ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) integrally doped with a biocompatible ionic liquid, enabling mixed ionic–electronic conduction. The solid electrolyte comprises a poly(vinylidene fluoride co hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF co HFP) based polymer–ionic liquid composite, which enhances device stability by eliminating electrolyte leakage and evaporation. The planar side gated architecture enables low voltage operation, high transconductance, and stable performance in aqueous or physiological environments, making the device suitable for biosensing and electrophysiological applications.
