Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for the extraction of cottonized high-quality industrial hemp fibres from Himalayan industrial hemp. The method comprises harvesting mature hemp plants, mechanically decorticating the stems to separate bast fibres, followed by drying, cutting, and opening of the fibres. The extracted fibres are subjected to scouring, bleaching, and softening treatments under high-temperature high-pressure conditions without the use of enzymatic retting. Thereafter, the treated fibres are hydro-extracted to remove excess water, dried, and reopened to obtain cottonized hemp fibres. The method is specifically adapted to the unique morphological characteristics of Himalayan industrial hemp and enables production of cottonized fibres with improved fineness, strength, softness, and spinnability. The process reduces chemical usage, processing time, and fibre degradation, making the fibres suitable for textile, composite, and other industrial applications.
