Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for enhancing oil recovery from reservoir rocks using a specific pyridinium-based ionic liquid, 1-dodecylpyridin-1-ium chloride ([C12Py][Cl]). The process involves synthesizing [C12Py][Cl] through the reaction of pyridine and 1-chlorododecane at 110°C, followed by purification. An ionic liquid solution is prepared by mixing the concentrate with filtered formation brine, maintaining a concentration between 500 ppm and 2500 ppm. The method includes comprehensive characterization of reservoir rock mineralogy via XRD and SEM, and crude oil analysis to determine the Critical Micelle Concentration (CMC). The solution is injected into the reservoir at a controlled rate and pressure, specifically 2 cc/minute and 400 psi, to reduce interfacial tension and alter rock wettability toward water-wetness. At an optimal concentration of 1000 ppm, the invention achieves a significant oil recovery efficiency of approximately 50.89% of the Original Oil In Place (OOIP).
