MUMBAI, India, Aug. 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611080440 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Delhi on June 30, 2026, for A Method For Applying A Bond Coat And An Alloy Coat On Aluminum Alloy Substrate.

Inventors include Bhowmik, Ayan; Kumari, Sudha; Gosvami, Nitya Nand; Khan, Saiful Wali; and Singh, Harpreet.

The application for the patent was published on August 14, 2026, under issue no. 33/2026.

Abstract: A method (100) for depositing a dual coating on an aluminum alloy substrate includes polishing (102) a surface of the aluminum alloy substrate (250); depositing (104) a stainless steel powder (202) onto the prepared surface using a cold spray apparatus (200) having a converging-diverging nozzle (200A) and a carrier gas (200B). The sprayed particles impact the aluminum alloy substrate (250) at a supersonic velocity to undergo a plastic deformation and form a first bond coat layer (260). The method (100) includes depositing (106) a titanium alloy powder (204) coating onto the formed first bond coat layer (260) using the cold spray apparatus (200) to form a second coat layer (270) to form a multilayered structure having a porosity upto 3% and an adhesion strength of 35 MPa. The method (100) promotes plastic deformation of the titanium alloy particles during deposition, reducing particle rebound, enhancing splat formation and particle consolidation.
