Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a system and method for oral cancer screening. Conventional oral cancer screening techniques are affected by image variability, illumination differences, image artefacts, and difficulties in accurately identifying precancerous and cancerous lesions from oral cavity images. To address these challenges, an oral cancer screening system (101) is provided for processing oral cavity images acquired from one or more image sources (103). The system performs image preprocessing including Gaussian filtering, median filtering, contrast enhancement, colour normalization, reflection suppression, and intensity normalization to generate enhanced oral cavity images. Thereafter, lesion localization and feature extraction operations are performed to generate lesion-specific image features, which are analysed by a lesion assessment engine to classify lesions into normal, precancerous, or cancerous categories. The system further generates visual interpretability outputs and a lesion assessment report (105). The disclosed system may be implemented using a computer system (400) to facilitate automated and real-time oral cancer screening.
