Abstract: ABSTRACT A Method and System for AI-Assisted Orthodontic Plaque Detection Using pH-Responsive Indicators The present invention relates to an AI-assisted orthodontic diagnostic system for monitoring oral hygiene conditions using image-based analysis of pH-responsive indicators. The system comprises an orthodontic bracket integrated with a micro-scale pH-sensitive indicator configured to generate a visible colorimetric response corresponding to localized acidic conditions caused by plaque accumulation. An image acquisition device captures the indicator response, and a processing unit performs feature extraction including color intensity and spatial distribution analysis. A lightweight analytical framework, including rule-based mapping and limited machine learning, interprets the extracted features to classify plaque severity and assess enamel demineralization risk. The system provides user-oriented outputs such as visual indicators, risk scores, and advisory notifications without requiring active intraoral electronic components. The invention enables continuous, non-intrusive, and localized monitoring of oral conditions, improves diagnostic objectivity, and supports preventive orthodontic care through early detection of plaque-induced acidity and associated risks.
