MUMBAI, India, Aug. 10 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511002554 A) filed by Chairman, Defence Research & Development Organisation Drdo on January 10, 2025, for A Method And An Apparatus For Incremental Forging.

Inventors include Ilangovan, Balasundar; and Kedia, Bipin.

The application for the patent was published on July 31, 2026, under issue no. 31/2026.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method (400) for incremental forging to form axisymmetric forged articles (104) with or without planar symmetry. The method (400) includes positioning a workpiece (102) between at least one set of first dies (302). The method (400) includes performing, a first forging operation to deform the workpiece (102) to the final geometry at the central region (CR) of the axisymmetric forged article (104). The method (400) includes positioning the partially deformed workpiece (506) obtained after first forging operation between at least one set of second dies (304, 306). The method (400) includes performing a second forging operation to deform the entire peripheral region (PR) of the partially deformed workpiece (506) to obtain the final axisymmetric forged article (104). Alternatively, the method (400) includes performing a second and subsequent forging operation to deform sectors at the peripheral region (PR) of the partially deformed workpiece (506).
