The method (200) includes detecting a change in a regulator (106) position based upon an input voltage to the BLDC-based electric load (102). Calibrating, the regulator (106) for position estimation. Determining a first resistive load and a second resistive load to be applied on the regulator (106). Applying one of the first resistive load and the second resistive load to a Switch Mode Power Supply (108) for a predetermined time to the SMPS (108). Comparing, the first resistive load and the second resistive load of the regulator (106) with a no-load condition of the regulator (106). Detecting, a position of the regulator (106) based on the comparison. Regulating, a speed of the BLDC-based electric load (102) based on the detected position of the regulator (106).
