Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and system for predicting a debris-induced fault on an electrical distribution feeder. The method comprises receiving sensor data from a plurality of sensors, wherein the sensor data comprises debris presence data and humidity data; determining an amount of a debris accumulation at a location on the feeder based on the debris presence data; determining a moisture condition of the debris accumulation based on the humidity data; and predicting a likelihood of a debris-induced fault based on the debris accumulation amount and the moisture condition using a machine learning model comprising a deep learning algorithm trained on historical fault data and historical environmental data. A preventive control action is generated when the predicted likelihood exceeds a predetermined threshold, comprising transmitting a real-time alert to a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system for display.
