Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a method and a system for detecting defects in a steel billet. The method includes receiving at least one of a cross-section image and a perspective image, of a steel billet, from a mobile imaging unit, during casting of the steel billet. The method may further include determining a diagonal difference value corresponding to the steel billet, based on a first distance calculated and a second distance of the cross-section image. The method may further include determining a bulging length corresponding to the steel billet, based on a number of pixels and a pixel per matrix value corresponding to the pixel matrix of the perspective image. The method may further include detecting at least one of, a diagonal defect or a bulging defect in the steel billet based on the diagonal difference value and the bulging length, respectively.
